About Dr Leigh-Ann Wood-Pottle
Dr Leigh-Ann Wood-Pottle is a developmental and behavioural paediatrician with over 10 years of experience in both the private and public healthcare sectors. She specialises in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of developmental delays, autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, behavioural challenges, and cerebral palsy.
Her approach is holistic and team-based, working closely with families as well as teachers, therapists, and support staff to provide integrated care tailored to each child’s needs.
Dr Wood-Pottle earned her medical degree from Stellenbosch University and began her career in KwaZulu-Natal, where she completed her internship, community service, and worked as a medical officer. She returned to the Western Cape to complete her specialist paediatric training at Paarl and Tygerberg Hospitals, followed by sub-specialist training in developmental paediatrics, completed in 2025.
She is one of only a few paediatricians in the Western Cape that is trained in both the ADOS and DISCO assessments, which are gold standard tools used in diagnosing certain developmental conditions. She is also certified in the Griffiths III developmental scales assessment.
Originally from Kenridge, Durbanville, Dr Wood-Pottle is delighted to return to her roots to open her practice. She’s a mom of three, and enjoys running, baking, hiking, and spending time with loved ones.
Mission and Values
I endeavour to manage and support my clients that they can be better understood and reach their full potential. I aim to assist in improving their quality of life, their ability to function independently at home and at school and identify and encourage their interests, strengths and talents. I aim to assist parents who have been concerned about their children, to provide a place of acceptance, understanding and hope. It is also important to me that the family as well as the team working with the child are supported and that clear communication exists between all parties involved.
Information for New Patients: What to Expect
First Consultation - Intake with parents
An in-depth discussion about your concerns, medical and developmental history, and any information provided beforehand (e.g. teacher or therapist reports).
Second Consultation - Assessment session with your child
A developmental assessment covering key areas of development, along with a physical exam to check growth and rule out medical concerns. Additional questionnaires may be requested to assist with diagnosis and support planning.
Third Consultation - Feedback session with parents
Dr Wood-Pottle will share her findings, discuss any diagnoses, and outline a support plan. This may involve referrals to other professionals, classroom support strategies, or medication where appropriate. Further assessments, if needed, will be explained and coordinated.
Follow-up sessions are arranged according to the individual needs of each child and may include additional assessments, feedback on intervention progress, or medication reviews. The duration of these sessions varies and may be 15, 30, or 45 minutes, depending on the purpose and complexity of the follow-up.
